Why I Practice qi gong with chi flow Every Morning
I show up for Chi Flow with Jo every single morning—and it’s not because I’m super disciplined or spiritual.
It’s because it works.
It helps me feel like myself again. It helps me move. It helps me breathe.
I want to share this with you, not as some kind of expert, but as someone who understands what it’s like to live with Parkinson’s.
“I’ve got Parkinson’s. But it doesn’t have me.”
How Parkinson’s Changed My Life
When I was diagnosed, everything felt like it was slipping away—my strength, my identity, my independence.
The freezing. The tremors. The fatigue.
And beyond all that, the stuff people don’t see: the anxiety, the frustration, the self-doubt. There were days I didn’t want to get out of bed.
But then I found Chi Flow.
Or maybe, it found me.
WHAT IS CHI FLOW WITH JO?
Chi Flow is a live online Qi Gong class led by my wife, Joanne.
Every morning, we show up. Sometimes we’re tired. Sometimes we’re sore. But we move anyway, gently, mindfully, together.
Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese movement practice—low impact, slow, and powerful.
It’s not about pushing through. It’s about tuning in. And for me, it’s become the foundation of how I live well with Parkinson’s.

what it does for me
Here’s what I’ve noticed since starting Chi Flow with Jo:
- I walk more smoothly (less shuffle, more stride)
- I sleep better, deeper, calmer nights
- My hands are steadier, and my mind is too
- I feel stronger, in my body and in my heart
- I don’t feel alone
Even on the hard days, I know I’ve got this one thing I can count on.
Just 30 minutes. Every morning.
And it resets me, physically, mentally, emotionally.
Not just for me, for you too
You don’t have to do it perfectly. You don’t even have to stand.
Some mornings, I do it in a chair. What matters is showing up.
And if you’re supporting someone with Parkinson’s, Chi Flow is for you too. Jo and I do this as a couple. It helps us stay connected, grounded, and kind to each other.
If you’re a carer, a partner, or a friend, this practice will nourish you just as much. Maybe more.
